What is Magic Earth?
Magic Earth is a navigation software using OpenStreetMap data for optimal routes for driving, biking, hiking, and public transit. It works offline and has a robust search engine for efficient navigation. The software doesn't collect personal data and offers offline maps covering 233 countries and regions. Users can choose from 2D, 3D, and Satellite map views and get detailed route information, including surface type, difficulty, distance, and elevation, as well as nearby points of interest and parking spots.
The software allows users to find the fastest or shortest route, supports multiple waypoints, and has a free Head-up Display (HUD) feature. It offers turn-by-turn navigation and lane assistance, speed camera and speed limit notifications.
Magic Earth provides real-time traffic information and alternative routes to avoid congestion. For public transportation, it offers a view of transit routes, walking directions, transfer times, departure times, number of stops, cost, and identifies wheelchair or bike-friendly options.

Comments and Reviews
One of the best navigation apps there is.
Not free anymore, but only $0.99 per year.
The presence of lane-guidance is declared, but in my region it does not work in the current version of the application during car navigation. Although information for the corresponding intersections is available on OpenStreetMap.
I don't see any functionality on the website to delete or edit my review. After the Big Update on November 28, 2025, I see no reason to continue using this app. All the key features have become paid.
Seems great if you're a driver, the public transport features feel like an afterthought. As someone choosing to use public transport wherever possible, that's a deal-breaker to me. That part of the app needs serious improvement

Cons:
After trialling this app, I've not had any issues with reliability and am happy to make this my recommendation (alongside HERE) as an alternative to Google Maps. You may, or may not, be aware that this is the navigation app of choice for /e/OS. And I can see why. I will stick to this for now.
EDIT: Cleaning up formatting and added more info
UPDATE #1: Spent a bit more time testing the address search, street names and post/zip codes work very well, but house numbers are a little hit and miss with accuracy. But this may be an inherent issue with OpenStreetMaps. I will keep the stars as it is.
UPDATE #2 [2025-07-30]: Adding 'Android Support' to the list of pros. It works very well. But came across an issue when it tries to recalculate the route after a long drive (around 2 hours) it gets stuck in an overview, so I end up switching back to my phone to continue using the navigation.
I have been using this app for years. Works very reliable and provides monthly map updates for my country. It is useful to contribute with Openstreetmap as the features in the app to report accidents, closed roads, ect. A great privacy friendly alternative for drivers that uses googlemaps
One of the best nav apps out there. I was using OSMand before, but this make OSMand look silly (although not as complex or able to customize as much). It just works.
OSM based map that works online, exactly what I was looking for!
