What is LocalSR?

LocalSR is a free, open-source desktop app for enlarging photos, cleaning up noise, blur and JPEG artifacts, and enhancing video. Everything runs on your own computer. Your images and videos are never uploaded, and there is no account.

You add a photo or a video, choose Quick or Best and press one button. A comparison slider then shows the original and the result side by side, and you can zoom in to check the details.

Features:

  • Upscaling by 2x, 3x or 4x with current models such as SPAN, RealPLKSR, HAT, Real-ESRGAN and SwinIR
  • Denoising, deblurring and JPEG cleanup, plus face restoration with compatible models
  • Video upscaling frame by frame, keeping the timing, rotation and audio
  • Editing photos from a text prompt with Qwen Image Edit or FLUX.2 klein (Mac only, experimental)
  • A model library that shows each model's size, license and source, and checks every download
  • Your own .safetensors models
  • Batch processing, a queue and saved setups
  • A command line tool with watch folders
  • JPEG, PNG, WebP, TIFF, AVIF, GIF, JPEG 2000 and camera RAW files, plus HEIC and JPEG XL on the Mac

On Apple Silicon Macs, the main models run on the Neural Engine through Core ML. The Mac version is signed and notarized and updates itself. Windows and Linux versions are available too, with CPU and GPU editions.

LocalSR is MIT licensed. The models keep their own licenses, and the app shows each one before downloading it. It is a public beta made by one developer.
