What is LingoNews?

LingoNews turns the day's news into reading practice for language learners. The first edition teaches German and an English edition is in preparation; the method is the same whichever language you are learning.

Every article is written for learners at B1 to C1 level and the difficult words carry their translation inline, printed above the word inside the sentence, so the reader stays in the target language instead of stopping at a dictionary. Research puts comfortable reading at around 95 percent known words; the glosses supply the rest, so you can read real news today rather than when your vocabulary is ready.

Every article has audio at normal and slow speed. Words you save are collected in a vocabulary vault and become flashcards you answer out loud, with mastery after five correct answers and a streak that only moves when you get them right. Word Catch turns the words from an article into a quick matching game.

The first five articles in the app are free (five in total, not per day); after that LingoNews is a subscription with a 7-day free trial. On the website, the first half of every article can be read without an account. Glosses and saved-word translations are available in eight languages: English, Portuguese, Spanish, Turkish, Ukrainian, Hindi, Chinese and Arabic.
