It may perhaps be discontinued, but it still works perfectly. Indeed you can still pay for a full subscription (which gives a voice reader and unlimited translations of phrases). This is a fantastic app for which I don't see an alternative. The real killer is the ability to sync scrolling words to youtubes with the ability to click on the words and phrases to get translations --- AND have them automatically moved to your wordlists and flashcards. The ability to construct "shelves" of similar content is fantastic. The author has stopped development (and works for Duolingo), but that's NOT the same as 'discontinued'!!!!!
Have a look at an example here.
I do agree, no replacement, it's so sad. The site works for now, but it's a death sentence. The browser extension started to behave randomly. I won't pay for a subscription, when there's a death sentence on this site. They should sell it, or better, integrate it with Duolingo (as the owner joined the team). I really don't understand how they let this treasure die. And it's an important feature that is missing to Duolingo!
HI Perce, just to comment on your post. Readlang remains one of my favourite tools for teaching English, and I'm very happy to pay the modest subscription as a compensation to the developer for his FANTASTIC work. The subscription goes through a Duolingo account and I figure that is a guarantee that it will remain. Yes, there are improvements which could be made (like filtering for videotexts or reporting poor content) but it works fine as it is. The Chrome extension won't work on every website - but it works on most. Also, I really like the fact that I can embed a Readlang synchronised video url easily into an other amazing app called Bookwidgets, and ask students questions about the content.

Readlang was a wonderful service. I've found no replace until now. If you know some, please tell me.
