Ads, content gating and Vendor-Lock-in. If you simply want an app to enjoy podcasts from the whole wide world (not just one site), Kasts or other open source projects are much more preferable.

gPodder used to be the state of the art in open source podcatchers. Sadly more advanced features like chapters or cloud sync are missing or better supported in Kasts and other apps. However, it's still a great choice for simple podcast listening on (cross-platform!) Desktop.
