It does exactly what it describes. Simple to use. I only miss having time-based restoring protection of the folder.
Kakasoft Folder Protector / Lock-A-Folder / LockDir works on WinXP and Win10 but a protected folder from an XP system cannot be unprotected on a Win10 system. The reverse is also true. That's a deal breaker!!
I am experiencing the same stressful issue as Gu. I purchased a lifetime license of Folder Protector in 2018. Now in 2021 it is no longer valid. I wrote to them (admin@kakasoft.com) several times, but no reply at all. I decided not to spend any more time with the untrustworthy company and bought Gilisoft File Lock Pro perpetual license. The company is known to be trustworthy, and the software is way better than Kakasoft's Folder Protector. I erased all traces of Kakasoft from my machine and now enjoy using Gilisoft File Lock Pro.
On your Web site (https://alternativeto.net/software/kakasoft-folder-protector/about/), you claim "Kakasoft Folder Protector" (Kakasoft.com, https://www.kakasoft.com/), "...an excellent folder security solution..." You should be aware, however, that the company appears to be fraudulent. I purchased a life-time licence for Folder Protector. Within a few years, my licence was no longer being accepted by the developer's site, making use of the product tenuous and unreliable. I contacted the company through their E-mail address provided on the Web site for support (admin@kakasoft.com) and explained the problem. Their initial response was that the licence was valid and that I should try again. I tried again - several times - with the same results and contacted the company again, with proof. At that point, the company would no longer respond to repeated requests for support. They advertise "...outstanding support" for their products, which is an outright falsehood given my experience with them. I believe that you should reconsider your endorsement of this company or at least provide information that the company does not provide its claimed support and that the product may or may not work over time.
