What is JatayuOS?

JatayuOS is a free Linux distribution developed in India for everyday computing, education and work. It combines the Debian 13 “Trixie” foundation with the KDE Plasma desktop and a collection of Jatayu applications.

The desktop includes Firefox for browsing, LibreOffice for documents and spreadsheets, and familiar tools for managing files and system settings. Aarambh, the welcome application, helps users find documentation and useful shortcuts. Jatayu Tools brings together additional applications and utilities.

Users can try JatayuOS from a live USB before installing it. Installation from the ISO does not require an internet connection. Software can be managed through APT and Flatpak.

JatayuOS 1.0 (Udaan) was released on 13 October 2026 for 64-bit Intel and AMD computers. It requires at least 4 GB of RAM, with 8 GB recommended.

JatayuOS is an independent community project. Its source repository, documentation and support channels are publicly available.
