What is ismail?

ismail is a free, open-source (MIT) music studio that an AI agent drives through text. The agent writes notes, instrument patches, effects, automation and mix settings as data, renders the song locally, and reads every render back as text: levels, drum lanes, piano rolls, chords and comparisons against a reference track. Instruments can be modeled on recorded notes of real ones, and no generative audio model makes the sound. It connects to agents such as Claude Code, Codex and Cursor as an MCP server, and also works as a command line tool and a Python library. Extras include live playing from the agent, a phone page for feedback, MIDI out, and a VR stage where you stand inside the song and say what to change. Install with pip or uvx; Python 3.10 or newer on Windows, macOS and Linux.
