What is Instants?
Instants is a photo sharing app and Instagram feature for sending spontaneous, temporary photos to close friends or mutual followers. Users can take photos in real time from the Instagram inbox or the standalone Instants app, add an optional caption, and choose who receives them. Instants cannot be edited with filters or other tools, and photos cannot be uploaded from the device gallery.
Shared Instants disappear after they are opened and cannot be viewed after 24 hours. Recipients can react, reply, and send Instants back. The app also includes a private archive where users can keep their shared Instants for up to one year, create recap posts for Instagram Stories, undo or unsend photos before they are viewed, snooze incoming Instants, and prevent screenshots or screen recordings. Instants uses Instagram’s existing privacy, blocking, muting, reporting, and teen supervision tools.
