What is HuskVault ?

HuskVault is an open-source cinema frontend and personal media orchestrator designed specifically for cold-tier movie archives.

Traditional media servers like Plex and Jellyfin assume every terabyte of your library must live on constantly spinning hard drives 24/7—burning 60W to 150W of continuous idle power just to serve metadata pings. If you spin down drives or shelve optical discs, traditional servers desync or show broken trashcan icons.

HuskVault decouples metadata from physical storage:

  • Permanent Metadata: Movie posters, synopsis details, and match settings remain permanently cached on local fast NVMe/SSD, keeping your collection searchable at 2ms query times.
  • Zero-Watt Idle Sleep: Bulk movie payloads hibernate on spun-down hard drives, Blu-ray binders (BD-R / M-DISC), or LTO tapes drawing 0W standby electricity.
  • StreamGate Direct Play: When an online volume is requested, media streams directly from raw block storage via HTTP 206 Byte-Range requests without decompressing or copying gigabytes back to SSD.
  • Physical Media Prompts: If a movie is stored on an unplugged drive or shelf binder, clicking the poster tells you the exact volume, disc slot, or tape UUID to insert.
  • State-Preserving Scraper & Fix Match: Automatically scrapes TMDb using file modification timestamps (mtime caching) and lets you manually correct film matches directly from the poster card.

HuskVault runs as a lightweight user-space web application paired with the HuskHoard storage tiering engine for Linux.
