What is Hey Ida?

Ida is a native macOS assistant for carrying out spoken or typed requests in the applications a person is already using. A user can hold an assigned shortcut to speak a request, then release it for Ida to prepare a response or action; typed requests are also supported.

The application can draft and send messages, create or modify calendar events, work with files, and prepare actions in connected services including Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Slack, GitHub, Outlook and iMessage. Before consequential actions such as sending, posting, scheduling or changing data, Ida presents a preview and requires approval.

Ida supports local or cloud speech recognition where available. Cloud requests may send relevant prompts, context or screen content off the device to provide requested features, while cloud audio and transcripts are not retained by Ida after the request is complete.
