What is Hatamoto CMS?

Hatamoto is an open-source content management system for blogs, business sites and marketing pages. It ships as one Go binary that runs against a Postgres database. You don't need PHP, Node or a stack of plugins to get a working, fast site. The features most sites end up adding as extras come built in.

What's included:

  • Editing: a blog editor and a visual page editor, plus reusable blocks, templates, menus, media, custom entity types and taxonomies.
  • Speed: pages are rendered on the server and kept in an in-memory page cache. Repeat visits are answered in a few milliseconds, and the cache clears as soon as you edit something.
  • SEO: sitemaps, robots.txt, JSON-LD structured data, a knowledge graph, URL patterns, redirects and internal linking are all part of the core.
  • AI visibility: AI-crawler analytics show which AI bots read which pages and whether they sent you any visitors. Each crawler is listed with its verification status, and you can allow or block it per purpose. Hatamoto also generates an llms.txt file for you.
  • MCP server: AI agents can connect through the Model Context Protocol to write, edit and publish content in the CMS.
  • Forms and email: forms are built in, with an inbox for the messages they receive and SMTP email.
  • WordPress import: Hatamoto imports your WordPress site and keeps every old URL working. A URL audit shows what moved.
  • Plugins and themes: they install with one click and run sandboxed in WebAssembly, so there's nothing to compile. Plugins can be written in several languages.
  • Updates: releases are signed, and automatic updates stay under your control. You can switch them off completely.
  • Privacy: there's no telemetry unless you turn it on. Every outbound connection the server makes is documented, along with the switch that turns it off.
  • Operations: you can deploy with Docker or systemd. Backups, export/import, webhooks, API keys, user roles and running multiple replicas are all covered.

Hatamoto runs on Linux and macOS (Intel and ARM) and is self-hosted. It's licensed under Apache-2.0 and developed by Zen Labs Corporation. It's currently pre-1.0 and already runs hatamoto.dev in production.
