Gwibber is an open source microblogging client for GNOME developed with Python and GTK. It brings the most popular social networking web services to your desktop and gives you the ability to control how you communicate.
It supports Twitter, Identi.ca, StatusNet, Facebook, Flickr, Digg, FriendFeed, and Qaiku.

The project seems to be no longer developed. Last verson, 3.6.0, released in October 2012, can be still downloaded from Launchpad.'s not in Ubuntu 14.04

Just add a launcher to the top panel that runs "killall gwibber-service" and click that if it doesn't come up.
