OpenStreetMap is a project aimed squarely at creating and providing free geographic data such as street maps to anyone who wants them. It is a free editable map of the whole world. It is made by people like you.

OpenStreetMap is definitely a better alternative than Google Maps. OSM doesn't track you or appropriate your data, it's community-built and open source. I use OSM every day to get where I need to go, and if there's a problem with the map, I can fix it myself!

Open data, can be easily fixed and enhanced by myself or others, great detail (not car-only stuff like in GoogleMaps) , no commercial spam / privacy-rejecting tracking, much more up to date in many places...

OsmAnd is like a Swiss army knife of navigation apps. It is amazing not only for driving, but hiking, cycling, horseback riding, boating... you name it! It is more difficult to set up than most other apps, but its versatility is incredible. It can connect to the car through ODB, show weather overlays, and many many things one doesn't even associate with a navigation app.

Offline, privacy-respecting, light and fast. Has so many importamt points of interest other than just businesses, such as drinkable water, toilets, benches, trash can, EV chargers, tyre compressors, etc. The app is great when hiking, cycling, or driving.

I'm searching for a replacement to Google Maps. I mostly use it for live-time public transportation routes and schedules. Unfortunately, HERE WeGo couldn't even get close to a reliably accurate account of the regular schedules in the Canadian city I live, let alone in live-time.

I think it's one of the best open alternatives to Google Maps. It uses OSM information but has many features lacking in other alternatives like a proper satellite view, a "relief" map and 3d view of terrain, and incorporates Panoramax, which is an open alternative to street view (although with not nearly as much coverage yet). All it lacks right now is a proper Android / Apple / F-Droid app and the possibility to download maps, (as well as some slight improvements in the UI). Overall, it's a maps application I would use daily for viewing the world's places, which is 90% of the time I spent on Google Maps; It doesn't have a proper navigation function, you can search up a place, select to go there and it will give you a button to open that navigation in CoMaps (at least in my case).
