Gone is a small, self-hostable service for sharing a secret exactly once: a password, an API token, a wifi key, a recovery code or a file.
Paste the secret or attach files, pick how long the link should live, and send the link. Your browser encrypts everything before it leaves your machine. The key is in the part of the link after the #, which browsers never send to a server, so the server stores only an encrypted blob it can’t read. The first person to open the link decrypts it in their own browser, and the server deletes it as soon as they have it. A second visit finds nothing.
Features:
One-time links that expire unread after a time you choose
Files of any type, up to 10 per secret; file names and types are encrypted too
Optional passphrase as a second lock, typed or generated as five random words
A private manage link to check whether the secret is still waiting, or delete it before anyone opens it
Request a secret: send someone a link and they reply with the secret, encrypted so it opens only in the browser that asked
The opened secret stays hidden until you press Show, for screen sharing
Optional QR code for handing a link over in person
A command-line client (gone) for terminals, scripts and AI agents
Five languages, light and dark themes, keyboard accessible
Gone runs as a single Docker container. It loads nothing from third-party servers: no CDNs, analytics or trackers. It’s free and open source under the AGPL-3.0, with no paid tier. Try it at gone.hauken.us, or run your own with one docker command.
