GIMPshop

"It has been five years, the software has stagnated (due in no small part to my becoming discouraged by this one profiteer who trumped me, stole much of my traffic and bumped my site down to the second result when you search for "Gimpshop"). I assumed the guy would just give it up as I sadly let the project stagnate, but that hasn't happened." | Source: http://ask.metafilter.com/144788/What-are-my-intellectual-property-rights-here

What is GIMPshop?
GIMPshop is essentially Gimp with some cosmetic changes. The Gimp’s menu structure and naming conventions are a constant source of frustration for users accustomed to Photoshop.
gimpshop.com is owned by a greedy domain squatter and NOT the developer. Please have everyone you know update their bookmarks.
GIMPshop shares all of GIMP's advantages, including the long feature list and customisability, while addressing some common criticisms regarding the programs interface. It modifies the menu structure to closely match Photoshop's, adjusts the programs terminology to match Adobe's, and in the Windows version, uses a plugin called Deweirdifier to combine GIMP's numerous windows in a similar manner to the MDI system used by most Windows graphics packages.
While GIMPshop does not support Photoshop plugins, all of GIMP's own plugins, filters, brushes, etc. remain available.
Due to the changes to the interface, many Photoshop tutorials can be followed in GIMPshop unchanged, and most others can be adapted for GIMPshop users with minimal effort.
Demand on hard disk is only 30.1 MB (GIMP needs 84.9 MB). Basic installation in difference to GIMP only with english user surface, no other languages.
NOTE: This software is NOT open source as it bundles adware with the application: the source code is NOT available. Also, the person that runs gimpshop.com basically stole Scott Moschella's original GIMPshop and used it to make money from advertising, even going so far as to pretend like they were Scott and including donation links. More info can be found at the Wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GIMPshop
Comments and Reviews
Just so anyone reading the comments knows: the website for GIMPshop has been fixed. It now points you to a Sourceforge repository, where the real GIMPshop can be found, complete with GPL-licensed source code.
Thanks HackedChicken. I don't think this is needed any longer though. Gimp now has a single-window interface option built-in.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I'm aware, that was the only feature differentiating the two. Gimp should suffice on its own now, I think.

I actually KNOW the owners and investors (and designers) and I got a bit in there, but anyway, I heard it was actually completely the opposite. Goodness, what has this world come to? Well, best of luck!
Bundles adware and does not make the source code available. Also, the guy that runs gimpshop.com is a deceitful little scoundrel that steals to make a quick buck. I edited this entry to reflect that this software includes adware and is NOT open source. Hopefully the changes get made. Also, whoever is linking to Scott's Twitter and (now defunct) personal website need to stop doing that as Scott wants nothing more to do with GIMPshop.
Well, as far as I've noticed there seems to be no Linux version for this app, so why does it seem to state that there is one?
there IS a linux version; you just need to scroll down to the bottom of the page to find it: http://gimpshop.com/downloads

and btw, the latest gimp version (2.8) has a "single-window" mode so you don't need gimpshop http://www.tux-planet.fr/public/images/screenshots/software/gimp/gimp-2.8/gimp-2.8.jpg

It was killed by the guy who runs gimpshop.com, it's a sad story. Read about it here.
Makes following tutorials in the GIMP documentation impossible since it changes around the UI. Can't follow Photoshop tutorials, though, still too different. The website is also REALLY spammy.
