What is FreeMind?
FreeMind is a premier free mind-mapping software written in Java. The recent development has hopefully turned it into high productivity tool. We are proud that the operation and navigation of FreeMind is faster than that of MindManager because of one-click "fold / unfold" and "follow link" operations.

Simple and free!
If you want to keep using the FreeMind codebase I'd recommend sticking with the Freeplane fork rather than FreeMind.
They're taking care of the .mm community quite well so far.
Obsolete. Even when launching it shows a message asking to install Java 1.5 (a very old and now unsafe version of Java) in order to properly run Freemind. So, I uninstalled Freemind and now I'm using Freeplane, which is a modern and powerful alternative.
For those who don't like the mess of Java, you might want to try this alternative
Liberica JDK I don't know how it will work/read in this instance, but it usually works.
I can't open old .mm file which has been created using older version of this program.
I don't believe this project has been discontinued. Latest update is 2019-12-11.
FreeMind is my favorite mind map tool, it's free, easy to use and looks simple and clean.
Not sure, but may be abandonware.
Hasn't been updated since 2016 (unstable), and last stable version was 2014.
I think Freeplane is a much more up-to-date fork.
