I especially do not like the interface of this platform, but I consider this a good one in total. Of course, there are many other freelance websites like the www.jointohire.com or peopleperhour or guru , which You can use. I myself use the jointohire.com , becasue of better rates, and a great support.

Their pricing introduces bad incentives

When does Freelancer make money?

  1. When a project gets paid - which is the correct way to charge fees. That way, if you don't find work, they don't get paid either.
  2. When you buy their "membership subscription", which gives them money in exchange for more bids. Why would you ever pay for this? Problem is, the free tier has just 8 bids. This will get you hired at most once a month, and it's not enough. So, this is the real way Freelancer makes money: scamming you into paying for the "treatment" letting you apply to tons of spam projects instead of giving you the "cure".

Support is a joke.

I have three support tickets on various issues. All were closed by Freelancer and not me. Of these, only one satisfied me.

I have a recent ticket about their handling of VAT. Support told me that they forwarded my request to the "relevant team" and they'll contact me later, but their ticketing system tells me to contact them again if I still need help, otherwise they'll close the ticket. "Once your ticket is resolved, our agents will no longer respond."

Isn't this a joke?

Another one is about the project price filter. You can search and filter all you like; but it only works haphazardly; some projects just don't get filtered out.

Same story. I was assured that the problem was relayed "to our engineering team. Rest assured that we will coordinate with them and we'll inform you once we received an update. ", after which their system automatically closed the ticket, then I heard nothing for over a month and a half (still doesn't work).

If I can't even filter properly, how am I supposed to bid my 8 free bids?

I did receive a response for one ticket. It was about how the project location filter works. If you search for a project in a specific location, they told me you only get projects that NEED to be done in a specific location; not projects with the employer in a specific location, as I believed. This is completely useless to me as a software developer - I am interested in selecting the countries of my employer because of differing amounts of paperwork.

After a long discussion with the support team, I was not told why they refused to pay my employee. They only referred to a "security issue". My employee waited for weeks for her money to arrive, and finally Freelancer decided not to transfer the money to her. At this point I have already paid her salary to my Freelancer account, so it was a very unpleasant situation. Freelancer claimed that they transferred all the money back to my card, which was not true, since the amount I got back was 18% less than what they charged me earlier. When I asked them to explain how exactly they calculated the amount to return, their only reply was to wait a few more days, the money will arrive soon. That was more than a month ago. My impression is the Freelancer is not transparent, not fair, they only focus on their profits. Avoid them if you can.

I have used this service after 2 weeks work like a charm. About service charge, you should be beware recurring payment. They charge everything if you want more option like highlight, seal, etc. So you should be considering before click anything I recommend you should use Paypal for payment better be safe if you worry about payment.

The Pro They offer to get free premium service for 1 month which another freelancer service not even offer any free service to you at all Strong community can drive more sell and support your work

The Cons Really hard to pass high score exam even in level 1. It does not look like level 1 anyway I have been testing some skills which I have experienced more than 5 years but can not get 100% pass mark.

For malware or danger things I have been checked with WOT, McAfee and Virustotal not see anything wrong. https://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/freelancer.com http://www.mcafee.com/threat-intelligence/site/default.aspx?url=https://www.freelancer.com https://www.virustotal.com/en/url/8f3b95e37c382540322fe4cbc493e4cf19d1134191c76c8230181285d5204625/analysis/

I've used freelancer for hire freelancer for projects i have, the general is if u have award a freelancer to do the job, and create milestone, then u direct to the payment window ( paypal, credit card ).

Then if u happy with the job, YOU can release the payment for the freelancer.

On the last projects i've posted, all of them, i cancelled from some reasons, some reasons was cause not much offers, or not many freelancer accepet the job.

When i check my paypal account i see freelancer was charge me for those canceled projects.

  • NO JOB DONE.

  • I CANCEL ALL THE PROJECTS, AND NEVER AWARD FREELANCER !

  • I NEVER PERMITTE OR APPROVE PAYMENT.

I will never use freelancer again, not with this "hiding" charged. not with this kind of behavor.

I'M STILL WAITING FOR REFUND.

$71.91 $5.42 $5.42 $5.42 $3.37

I am a freelancer. Looking at your story, I think charging hidden charges is bad universally. It should always be clear what will be given and taken from your account.

But I think there should be some measures against spam projects. As I tried to find work, I could only see spam jobs with hundreds of applicants, where nobody awarded anything. They should pay for my attention and increased difficulty in searching for a job!
