I am just commenting here to say that it no more installs any crapware like that. I have Malwarebyte Antimalware Pro shield, that catches such things and there no such problem. The only thing you will get nad need to untick, is an offer to install Avast Free Antivirus.

Be careful during setup, updates, and "Platinum features" or "Brightdata" Risk of turning your device into a VPN/Proxy nodes that are sold to marketing companies.
Other than bundling sponsored applications during installation & update setups, FormatFactory now ask you if you want to enable additional free premium "Platinum features" by allowing "Brightdata" to use your resources and internet bandwidth.
Platinum features from Brightdata will have a blue diamond with the letter "V" in it as a small icon on the top-left of the button.
This will allow Brightdata (ex. Luminati) to run in the background while FormatFactory is closed, and use your device's internet connection on behalf of companies who purchased Proxy/VPN from Brightdata.
If you have no idea how it may be used, Brightdata's customer can use your internet connection to do things like monitor how websites look from real residential users, or monitor prices on competing shopping sites without being detected that they're from a company (and thus being shown a different price). It may also be used for more nefarious purposes. Governing bodies will see that this data is coming out from your internet connection. So beware.
Upon inspection, FormatFactory still keeps communicating to Brightdata's service while its opened - even when the "Platinum features" powered by Brightdata is off. This is concerning.
If you're not sure if "Platinum features" is enabled: in the app, press the Option button, then Advanced. There should be Brightdata Platinum feature checkbox at the bottom of the window.
If you don't count this concerning new-ish update, FormatFactory still remains the best in class. No other converter apps, even paid ones, comes close in terms of wide range of supported formats, flexibility, ease of use, user-friendliness, and design.
It's super easy to use. Novice friendly. No command line. Can convert literally any format to any format, it can handle all the tasks. Has design that's nice & modern. (No open-source apps' design here e.g. dense small text & buttons, menu bars, shiny icons non-flat icons, hard to use, only works by context menu or command line. None of that in FormatFactory.)
Overall, it's good but is very worrying security & privacy wise. Until a comparable app come along, be careful on what it bundles with and read everything - don't just click "Yes".
If you want to build an alternative to this app, please don't just look at functionality - what sets FormatFactory apart is its novice-friendliness, ease of use, and modern design.
It seemed fine, but recently it started asking for tracking information, or they lock stuff behind a wall. And my Malware protection instantly popped up multiple times after i agreed to it. I decided to uninstall and run scans.
It's clever format converter.
Easily to use with screenrecorder
It's a nice transcoder/converter. The converted files look very good, and it's able to embed subtitles into transcoded files on-the-fly. It can also utilize AMD and Nvidia's proprietary hardware decoders for accelerated conversion.
The only bad thing about this software is that the user interface is stuck in 2008, and the gif converter is basically useless, as the gifs look terrible, even with the best conversion settings.
