I'm using floccus in conjunction with my nextcloud, and it just works. I use it on Linux, Android and Windows. The upside compared to e.g. Firefox sync is that my data is in my own hands, and no one is checking how often I visit my bookmarks. Setup is as easy as it gets, and after that I can just forget about it. Thank you!

Comment summary: Floccus is praised for its reliable sync capabilities across various devices and browsers, functioning well with platforms like Nextcloud and WebDAV. Users appreciate its simplicity and ease of setup, though there is concern about a data loss bug affecting bookmark folder names. Despite a reported issue with setup instructions and Nextcloud integration, Floccus generally receives positive feedback for enabling privacy-centered bookmark synchronization.

I like Floccus very much. Since at least 2 years it runs stable at home and syncs all my bookmarks across my several PCs and Laptops to and from my local WEBDAV server. I use Floccus on Linux and Windows, both. I never had any issues.

If you are looking for a reliable tool to sync your bookmarks and open tabs across your devices - go with Floccus and please consider donating to support the author.

I love foss, and will keep using floccus too, but...

  • It removed ALL of my bookmark folder names once due to a bug (no way to recover since I use floccus as the primary way to backup)
  • I am still sad due to this, I painstakingly organized into many folders (1000+) but they are all just (no title) now.
  • Has gotten a very impressive git backend in a new update, so it is great, I thought since it is possible to recover from the bad backups due to having git history
  • recently the git history was overwritten with a single commit by it, luckily I had local clone and force pushed to recover my git history

I won't, in good consience recommend it unless you use some other way of backup as well (3 2 1 rule) Again, love the software and am greatful it exists, but not my experience with it. Even if it were paid non-foss software, I can see how the above bugs could've occured. but since it is foss I can't be mad at it, just blame my bad luck. (not that I use any paid software)

This is the data loss bug https://github.com/floccusaddon/floccus/issues/1454 I had.

I have been using this plugin for years now, in various browsers across different devices. I have never had any problems with it, it has always worked fine. First I synchronized my bookmarks on my HiDrive via Webdav. Meanwhile it runs via Google Drive.

For data protection reasons, end-to-end encryption should always be activated, if available for the respective connection type. For security reasons, you should of course also regularly create an offline backup of your bookmarks. Just in case.

I like Floccus and have a suggestion, maybe I will do this: create a desktop or web application for addon-unsupported browsers like qutebrowser.

Don't have alternatives. Use Floccus + iCloud Bookmarks to sync all 9 Browsers (on Windows and Android) + Safari (on macOS and iOS)
