FileRanger is a native file manager for macOS, inspired by Windows Explorer and commander-style file managers. Every tab can be split into two panes (⌘3), and F5/F6 copy or move the selection to the other pane. The breadcrumb address bar is editable (⌘L) with folder autocompletion, and ⌘F searches the current folder and all subfolders live, with wildcards like *.pdf.
Cut and paste (⌘X/⌘V) works through the system pasteboard, also to and from Finder. Copy, move, rename and trash can be undone. Other features: F2 rename, batch rename with regular expressions and a live preview, list and grid views, a details panel with folder sizes, Quick Look, type-to-jump, hidden files toggle and a Home view with recent files.
The right-click menu adapts to the selection: open in your editor, terminal or IDE, run package.json scripts and make targets, Git status/log/pull/push, JSON formatting, image conversion and resizing, ZIP/TAR archives, checksums, and copying files as context for AI chats. You can add your own commands in a JSON config file with shell-quoted placeholders.
Free to download with a 14-day free trial, then a one-time $9.99 in-app purchase (no subscription). No account, no analytics. Distributed through the Mac App Store (sandboxed, with an optional command helper for running your own tools). Requires macOS 26 and Apple silicon.
