What Franz should've been. Is keeping the open source software alive. Ferdium has a very nice looking UI and simple ease of setting up integrations with your various accounts. And I really like the workspaces to organise your accounts.
I like the fact that you don't have to create an account to use Ferdium, but would be ideal if you want to use sync. Otherwise you could self-host your own Ferdium Server.
The drawback for me is that, like Franz, we're using web-browser wrappers. I get that's...

The drawback for me is that, like Franz, we're using web-browser wrappers. I get that's gonna be the nature of the beast, but it does add to the eventual bloat where the interface can get sluggish.
I did face some weirdness with the Outlook.com integration when it comes to the message count, but you can edit each service and tailor your experience.
The notifications actually work. It has built in options to autostart and be minimized, and even a global hotkey. Easy multiple instances of the same app. Per-app configurable dark mode with the best extension, Dark Reader. The UI design is good, even including its icon.
This software is on the cusp of greatness. It almost does everything I -and any other user - could want from an app that consolidates the ludicrous chat app situation into one overall merged solution.
BUT.
It has a pretty hefty deal-breaker issue in that none of its notifications are currently working! App badges are supposed to update, sounds are supposed to play, and Windows own Notifications are supposed to trigger - NONE are working as of the latest Release and Nightlies. A chat app that can't notify a User of new messages is no use to man nor beast. It's a real shame because if that worked this app would be Best In Class [Yes, I've tried ALL the others!] and I'd happily award it five stars. But only two stars and a big scowly "AVOID" until this is fixed.
The best open source and free solution when all alternatives are freemium. Very polished software and easy to set up.
Some minor complaints about interface and text rendering but everything else works great.
In essence, it is an ordinary browser that opens web versions of services, but instead of tabs - buttons on the panel. Unnecessary interface elements are removed. It is memory-hungry, but services that do not require a constant Internet connection can be "frozen" to save memory and updated periodically.
The best alternative for any other similar service. It works great, has a great UI and has a lot of useful options. It's the best of its kind.
Still only nightly builds, but already running great. Thank you for this open source project!
