Featherview is a native image viewer for the Mac built for speed: open one image, then flip through every image in the folder with the arrow keys. Single keys without modifiers rotate losslessly (R/L), show the info panel with histogram and place name (I), go full screen (F), move or copy to a folder (F7/F8) and move to the Trash. A thumbnail grid (T), a slideshow (W) and Compare (two images side by side, zoomed in step, with a difference view) are built in.
Huge pictures open fast: Hubble's 4.6 GB, 1.5-gigapixel Andromeda file is on screen about two seconds after the double-click, app launch included, and zooming decodes only the part you look at. Photoshop files are drawn from their layers when they have no flattened copy. File › Open from Photos browses your Photos albums like folders, with iCloud originals fetched on demand.
It opens everything macOS can read (JPEG, PNG, HEIC, AVIF, JPEG XL, WebP, TIFF, GIF, PSD/PSB, camera RAW and more), SVG and PDF pages, plus formats macOS can't: QOI, PCX/DCX, XPM, IFF/LBM, MacPaint, FITS, JPEG XR, BPG and others. Layered files from GIMP, Krita, Paint.NET and Procreate show flattened. Finder thumbnails and Quick Look previews work for the extra formats. HDR photos show their extra brightness on HDR screens (macOS 15+).
The batch window converts and renames many files at once, with crop, resize, rotate, colour, filter, canvas, border, text and watermark steps, a live preview and presets, from folders or the Photos library. Output: JPEG, JPEG XL, PNG, HEIC, AVIF, WebP, TIFF, GIF, BMP, JPEG 2000, PDF, PSD, TGA, ICO, ICNS, OpenEXR and more. It never overwrites existing files.
Measured on Apple Silicon: about 400 ms from launch to the first image (12 MP JPEG), about 20 ms to show the next image when it's prefetched. 30 languages. Requires macOS 14 or later, on Apple Silicon or Intel. It updates itself. Install with brew install --cask featherview/tap/featherview; the disk image isn't notarized yet, so its first open needs one Terminal line (in the README and the disk image's Read Me First).
