I love this software. Very helpful for erasing sensitive files/documents and, of course, cleaning up my traces from my wife 😅. You can choose to have your deleted files replaced with new files 📄📸 for more plausible deniability or to mislead a thief if they get access to your hard drive 💻.
It gets a 4-star rating because it's discontinued and therefore won't get patched or updated with the latest security measures. But I still trust this software to do its work, and it does that excellently.

It is open source and can do a variety of erase methods, no need to pay for active killdisk.
happy i found the old version there: http://sourceforge.net/projects/eraser/files/Eraser%205/5.8.8/

If you know overwrite techniques and would like schedule, this looks like a great choice. Number of overwrites can be chosen. Free and Open Source.. great. Scheduled tasks may be imported/exported. Settings can be saved. Some even more fancy features like choosing a file to overwrite with and unlocking locked files. Many people may want to overwrite an entire disk drive & this program doesn't provide an "easy button" to do so, however, programs KillDisk & Hardwipe do.
Great selection of overwrite algorithms. You need to use the correct one for your drive type. Some are for old and outdated drive technologies.
I really prefer Open-Source, but in this case I stick with the freeware alternatives WipeDisk and WipeFile. Slight, easy, safe, and it asks me at least twice, if I really want to wipe the specific folders/disks (just in case).

There is Double Commander as open source alternative. It does have wipe feature on Alt+Del (or File - Wipe). And you can change number of overwrite cycles in settings.
