If you know overwrite techniques and would like schedule, this looks like a great choice. Number of overwrites can be chosen. Free and Open Source.. great. Scheduled tasks may be imported/exported. Settings can be saved. Some even more fancy features like choosing a file to overwrite with and unlocking locked files. Many people may want to overwrite an entire disk drive & this program doesn't provide an "easy button" to do so, however, programs KillDisk & Hardwipe do.
Great selection of overwrite algorithms. You need to use the correct one for your drive type. Some are for old and outdated drive technologies.
happy i found the old version there: http://sourceforge.net/projects/eraser/files/Eraser%205/5.8.8/
I really prefer Open-Source, but in this case I stick with the freeware alternatives WipeDisk and WipeFile. Slight, easy, safe, and it asks me at least twice, if I really want to wipe the specific folders/disks (just in case).

Since version 6.x, Eraser became a useless piece of bloat, a CPU and RAM hog, that requires to run all the time in the background in order to work for the system integration (recycle bin and context menu). It needs almost 30MB in idle state for that. Also, users cannot choose the shredding method on the fly anymore as it was in the past versions. Now they first have to go to preferences of the main window. This really sucks and I uninstalled it. Now using version 5.87 again, which is slim and fast and does the job much better.
