Love love love this app. I've tried basically all of the free offline macOS dictation apps (MacWhisper, Spokenly) and this one beats them to become my daily driver. The reason why is it uses the super fast NVIDIA Parakeet model paired with a custom-tuned local AI cleanup model that runs very fast but still does a good job. So the output is faster than Whisper models while being just as accurate with punctuation and proper nouns (something Parakeet struggles with when dictating). There are a few QOL features it could use, but it's already in a very good place.

What is EnviousWispr?

EnviousWispr is a free, open-source dictation app for macOS 14 or later on Apple Silicon. Hold a shortcut, speak, and release to insert polished text into the app you are using.

Transcription runs on your Mac using Parakeet or WhisperKit. Keep text on your Mac too by choosing local AI polish, including EG-1, S1-mini, Apple Intelligence on macOS 26 or later, or a locally installed Ollama model. Optional cloud polish sends transcript text directly to your chosen provider using your own key or account. Dictation audio always stays on your Mac.

Features include custom vocabulary, a self-learning dictionary, spoken snippets, live preview, dictation history, Paste Last Dictation, smart formatting, and transcription of audio and video files.

No EnviousWispr account or subscription is required. The app is open source under GPLv3; downloaded models have their own licences.
