What is EchoCad?

Opens AutoCAD DWG drawings directly inside QGIS. R14 to 2018 and newer, no conversion step, no separate converter to install, and it works on closed networks with no internet. Each CAD layer becomes one QGIS layer, entity colour, line type and line width are carried over, hatch patterns are rebuilt from the definitions the drawing itself carries, and text keeps its original size, rotation and colour. Everything runs locally, so drawings never leave the machine.

Pro also extracts block attributes into fields, converts whole folders in one run with a per-file CSV report, applies layer mapping profiles that put CAD layers onto your own schema, georeferences a drawing from two reference points with Z values kept, and adds Processing toolbox algorithms. Output goes to GeoPackage or straight into the project. USD 299 for 10 users, with one year of updates included.

Why it is needed: QGIS cannot open DWG files newer than the AutoCAD 2000 format, and its built-in DXF import splits a drawing into one layer per geometry type, drops hatches and puts text at the wrong size.

Try it first: the free edition reads DXF with the same import code and installs from the official QGIS plugin repository, so you can see how your own drawings come across before buying Pro.

The interface follows the QGIS language: English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese and Chinese are included. Requires QGIS 3.34 LTR or newer on Windows or macOS.
