DoubleCAD XT is a great companion with AutoCAD - and if you are a Google SketchUp user wanting to go from concept-to-construction drawings - or have an older copy of AutoCAD LT that cant read the latest AutoCAD files - DoubleCAD XT is an invaluable companion to SketchUp and AutoCAD LT, too.
With many new, innovative features, you might even think DoubleCAD XT is an upgrade for AutoCAD LT. If you are an LT user, DoubleCAD XT will immediately feel familiar. Familiar menu, menu items, tools, icons, command line, keystrokes & intelligent cursor.

I have several years experience with AutoCAD LT as a structural engineer. After a couple of days of using DoubleCAD XT I was really happy with it - most of the functions and commands are the same. I would definitely recommend this free software, especially for students and small companies.

Free alternatives to AutoCAD you can find on (1 - in english) and (2 - in german). Free alternatives, which can read and store dwg- and dxf-files are DoubleCAD XT, LiteCAD, A9CAD, pCon.planner6 (6 languages). DoubleCAD XT (is very similar to AutoCAD). Why it is by far better than AutoCAD LT 2010, you see in the "Comparison AutoCAD LT & DoubleCAD XT Pro 2.0": (3)
