Comment summary: Dissenter Browser, described as a modified version of Brave Browser, offers prioritized privacy and an embedded commenting feature for any website. Many users appreciate its lack of bloatware, clean settings, and ad blocker. However, it has not been updated recently, raising security concerns. While some view it as a responsive alternative to Brave, others question the need for its existence given the few differences from the original browser.

Why did they turn an extension into a browser? Doesn't make any sense to me.

It's a solid browser, but it doesn't need to exist. The only noticeable differences compared to it's upstream are as follows:

  1. the BAT stuff has been removed
  2. the Dissenter Extension adds a comment section to every website. it is exclusive to this browser.

It's been long discontinued, so I wouldn't recommend using it due to the security concerns.

Well it's clean. I am not american so I don't get the gab extension nor I get annoyed in anyway by the dissenter social network. Never had a single pop-up from gab to register or to go to the gab network. It functions well and fast. People say it has spyware but I never saw anything. I just wanted a chrome based browser without any bloated ware . I tried Brave browser but it was annoying me trying to get me to sign , register and enter into cryptmoney stuff which I dont want and nagging me all the time trying to put me into some rewarding money scheme with cryptocoins money. I was fed up and I searched for an alternative and Dissenter seemed nice and it works great for me. Has a ad blocker which is nice and I can do everything I want. To me, it's a nice option and I give it a 5 . 5 stars

One of the worst web-browsers I've ever used. The Dissenter browser is a fork of the Brave web browser. This web-browser has two extensions pre-installed. One extension is Brave Shields (forked from Brave Browser), blocks certain advertisement and is written in Rust. It's a good ad-blocker, but it's worse than uBlock Origin. The other, “Dissenter extension”, allows you to access the Dissenter social network. This is the extension that sucks. Why? Because it phones home to several places whenever you open it, including Google and Twitter and is very intrusive. Basically, you should avoid this web-browser because:

  1. It's developed by a far-right, neo-Nazi backer developer (Gab Inc.). Their social network promotes white supremacism, xenophobia, LGBTfobia, and they don't care about hosting neo-Nazis and far-right negationists.

  2. It's abandonware. They haven't updated the application for a long time, which makes you very vulnerable to the security issues found in Chromium that have not been fixed in Dissenter Browser! (unacceptable in my opinion)

  3. It has a lot of spyware integrated. And you can't opt out easily.

  4. They don't update the browser, so don't expect new features...

  5. You have Ungoogled-Chromium or even Vivaldi as alternatives. They're great, private, and they have a lot of features. You should ditch Dissenter browser and use other alternatives like the mentioned above. Or use Firefox :) Hope you find useful.

Green Brave Browser. Dissenter Browser stripped Brave Browser's non-sense stuff such as Brave Rewards, Brave Wallet and Brave New Tab Sponsored Image, but you still can't disable the Brave-style new tab nor Dissenter extension. Dissenter Browser's settings page is a lot cleaner than Brave Browser. I like the fact that DDG is set as default search engine from the start.

Dissenter Browser hasn't been updated for a time. As of 22 Dec 2020, Dissenter Browser for Mac v0.70.122 is based on Chromium v78.0.3904.87 (released either on 23 March 2020, 18 Sep 2019 or 9 Sep 2019) while Chrome itself is v87.0.4280.88 (released on 3 Dec 2020). Also, browser's notification doesn't sound on macOS Mojave 10.14.6 w/ Security Update 2020-006 despite "Play sound for notifications" is on.

What is Dissenter Browser?

Dissenter is an open source web browser built for The People, not advertisers. Dissenter organizes conversations around individual URL's and creates a public square on them where anyone can leave a comment. The Dissenter browser blocks ads and trackers by default, making your web browsing experience much faster than traditional web browsers. Dissenter also offers an extension for other browsers, just in case you're not ready to make the switch yet and want to test our global comment system on other browsers. Compatible with Chrome extensions.
