What is Disconnect Search?
Disconnect Search is a meta-search-engine browser extension that lets you search privately using your favorite search engine.
Disconnect Search fetches results from popular search engines while protecting your privacy. Once you've installed and configured it, you don't have to do another thing, and it works like a charm.
Disconnect Search installs as an add-on for Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Safari. An Android app is available, and you can try it without installing anything by visiting the Disconnect website.

It shows a page that just defaults to DuckDuckGo. The Firefox add-on provides nothing more than UBlock.
Unlike the current description above, DS is a proprietary Search Engine. It's developed by Disconnect, Inc. While it emphasizes user privacy by anonymizing search queries & preventing tracking, it is NOT open-source.
Every time I used it it defaulted to Duckduckgo, even if you select Bing or Yahoo.
