While I would keep it for the Icon saving, this does actually have an impressive range of tools that would be great for someone who wants to use portable. Window Manager works great. Rectangle Capture. Desktop to foreground, etc. Even has it's own simple browser! Didn't notice a warning.

My opinion is, that the virus warning cannot have a real background.
Otherwise one of my different virus protection software(s) on 3 computers would have detected the virus, because I use DesktopOK every day on all my 3 computers.
The very good ranking (place 9 of 67) on http://www.chip.de/downloads/DesktopOK-64-Bit_42644766.html also indicates, that DesktopOK is clean and Ok.
On http://www.chip.de/downloads/DesktopOK-32-Bit_42644474.html 94% like DesktopOK, only 6% do not like it.
It seems it does refresh desktop after each SAVE, which moves all icons to default (i.e. sorted by system) positions.
Works fine with Windows 10
Do you have "auto arrange icons" off?

Incorrect labelling as "unsafe" . . . has persisted for the last 9 years
Who ever decided it was unsafe needs to learn something about ...
DesktopOK developer atleast deserves an honest appraisal.
Nenad Hrg (SoftwareOK) has been around for many years and is consistently upgrading all his software.

DesktopOK is lacking an option to create shortcuts for easy restore / saving. However, this can be achieved using the command-line and manually creating shortcuts yourself. see FAQ
In comparison to ReIcon which does allow easy creation of shortcuts, DesktopOK can update / overwrite existing layouts from its UI. So overall it works better but might be a bit harder to use and looks dated.
I've used it on both Windows 7 and Windows 10 computers. On a couple of occasions it seemed to go back a step to a previous arrangement but maybe it was finger trouble.
Ignore the "Trojan" warning on alternativeTo. I know that's what someone would say if they wanted you to download a Trojan - I used VirusTotal and McAfee and neither reported any problem.
I have used Fences, paid for several copies, but this is much more reliable.
It works with Windows 10 and solves the problem of the desktop icons auto-arranging themselves randomly or after a windows update.
