What is DecryptPDFs?

A Windows utility for finding and removing password protection from PDF files in bulk, right from the right-click menu. Point it at a folder — your Downloads folder, wherever encrypted statements and bills pile up — and it scans every PDF, tells you which are password-protected, and strips that protection automatically using passwords it has already learned, or one you type in.

Includes a built-in Password Manager: every password that successfully decrypts a file gets saved automatically (encrypted at rest with Windows DPAPI, tied to your Windows login), so the tool gets faster the more you use it. Free and open source (MIT license).

Features: recursive folder scanning, batch processing, automatic password learning and reuse, optional removal of PDF permission/security restrictions (not just open-passwords), overwrite-or-rename output, and a native Windows installer with right-click and "Send to" Explorer integration.

Alternative to:

  • PDF Password Remover / PDF24 Tools
  • SmallPDF (Remove Password tool)
  • iLovePDF (Unlock PDF)
  • PassFab for PDF
  • Adobe Acrobat (password removal feature specifically)
  • qpdf (command-line alternative, for the technical crowd)
