Culprit SQL Studio

Desktop, command-line and MCP tools inspect database statistics to report slow queries, plan regressions, index issues, lock waits and deadlocks. They explain plans in plain language, compare two plans, and keep server access read-only with approved agent queries.

What is Culprit SQL Studio?

Culprit SQL Studio reads the statistics your database already keeps (Query Store and the plan cache on SQL Server, pg_stat_statements on PostgreSQL, performance_schema on MySQL and MariaDB) and tells you, in one sentence per problem, what is slow, what it costs in database time, how to fix it and how to verify the fix.

It finds slow queries, plan regressions, parameter-sensitive plans, missing and unused indexes, lock waits, blocking chains and deadlocks. It explains execution plans in plain words and compares any two plans with the reason one is slower. It is read-only by design and nothing is installed on the server.

It comes as a native desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux, a command-line tool with JSON output, and an MCP server that lets coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex and Cursor investigate with you, with per-connection permissions and approval of every statement they want to run.
