What is CRUX Linux?
CRUX is a lightweight GNU/Linux distribution for the x86-64 architecture targeted at experienced users. The primary focus of this distribution is keep it simple, which is reflected in a straightforward tar.gz-based package system, BSD-style initscripts, and a relatively small collection of trimmed packages. The secondary focus is utilization of new Linux features and recent tools and libraries. CRUX also has a ports system which makes it easy to install and upgrade applications.

Said about CRUX Linux as an alternative
Arch was originally inspired by CRUX. The latter still adheres to its ideas of minimalism and modularity, which is (arguably) increasingly not true for Arch.
CRUX resembles Void, i.e. it follows similar ideas of BSD-like simplicity, but CRUX is much older, therefore more stable and more tested.
a minimal source-based distribution with perhaps the clearest, most transparent and simple layout among all source-based systems and Unix-like OSes in general
