Clickwill opens the music library that is already on your iPod classic and edits it in place, on a current Mac. There is no library on the computer to keep in sync and no music folder to maintain: what you see in Clickwill is what is on the device.
That is the difference from sync-based tools. When an album arrives split in two, with a missing cover or with its songs in the wrong order, you fix it on the iPod itself instead of fixing a folder and syncing again. Merge a split album, replace a cover, drag songs into place, rename a title, take an album out of Compilations.
It adds songs and albums from MP3, AAC, Apple Lossless, WAV, AIFF and FLAC files; anything the iPod cannot play, including hi-res above 16 bits, is converted to Apple Lossless on the way in. It imports audio CDs in Apple Lossless or AAC, with names, year, genre and cover from MusicBrainz. Duplicate songs are found and merged into one copy that keeps the plays, rating and playlist places of the others. Play counts made on the iPod are preserved.
Every edit stays pending until you choose Write to iPod, and a backup of the library is taken before each write and can be restored at any time.
Clickwill works with the original Apple firmware. Nothing is installed on the iPod: no Rockbox, no custom firmware, no jailbreak. The library never leaves the Mac.
