What is Cathy?
An extremly small, very fast and easy to use media cataloging tool. You can use it to index files stored on removable media (CDs, DVDs or even diskettes), hard disks or net drives, and create searchable catalogs that can be used without having access to original media. Searching capabilities are based on file name, date and size. Additional features include filtering options, search duplicates or singles, customizable date format, etc. Found files can be opened (executed) or deleted directly, if they are present. Drag&drop support. Directory trees, MP3 album/song lists can be printed, disk space usage can be investigated. Single file executable, no install needed.
Works well in Linux through the Wine.

Said about Cathy as an alternative
Used it before. Then went it took a while before new updates came. Changed to Virtual Volumes View during that time.
Cathy catalogs quickly all type of volumes. Light, portable and originally for Windows, it works also with Linux via Wine and also indexes hidden files of Linux (not performed by VVV). Cathy Catalog = the Best one !

I need to find files across multiple computers, volumes, & disks regardless of what computer OS I'm using. This looks like my only option. (I sure wish it had a 'grep' type of searching.)

Very small & fast, no install. Can catalog a DVD in a few seconds. Have used this reliably since 2003.
