Buzrr is an open-source, browser-based quiz and trivia platform designed to make learning, competition, and audience engagement more interactive. It allows educators, university professors, event organizers, communities, and friends to create quizzes, host live multiplayer sessions, and compete in real time without requiring participants to install an app or create an account.
Hosts can create quizzes manually or use AI-powered question generation to turn topics into ready-to-edit multiple-choice quizzes. Participants can join a live session instantly using a room code, shareable link, or QR code from their phones or computers. The platform features real-time gameplay, speed-based scoring, live leaderboards, answer statistics, and instant results.
Buzrr also includes ranked 1v1 trivia battles powered by an ELO-based rating system, bringing a competitive gaming experience to knowledge testing. For AI-assisted learning, its optional AI service supports generating questions from uploaded documents, with source citations to help users verify the generated content.
Built with Next.js, React, TypeScript, NestJS, Socket.IO, PostgreSQL, and Redis, Buzrr uses a real-time, server-authoritative game engine to manage scoring, timers, and game state. Its architecture supports Redis-backed live sessions and horizontal scaling across multiple server instances.
Unlike closed-source alternatives, Buzrr is open source and self-hostable, allowing developers and organizations to inspect, modify, and deploy the platform on their own infrastructure under its AGPL-3.0 license.
Buzrr aims to make hosting a quiz as simple as sharing a link, whether for classroom activities, university events, team-building sessions, live audience engagement, or casual trivia competitions.
