Hi everyone — I'm the developer of BURSUcm, so treat this as a disclosure rather than a review.

I built it because I was juggling a terminal for SSH, a separate RDP client, and a spreadsheet full of credentials across a mixed Linux/Windows estate. The idea was one workspace for all of it: SSH, RDP, VNC, Telnet, Serial, FTP and SFTP in tabs, with RDP and VNC rendered inside the app rather than handed off elsewhere.

Two things I'd especially like feedback on: the built-in RDP engine, and the storage model — you can keep everything in a local SQLite file, point it at your own PostgreSQL, or use our sync backend, and the app is fully usable offline with no account.

It's free on Windows, macOS, Linux and Android. If something is broken or missing, I'd rather hear it here than not hear it at all.

What is BURSU Connection Manager?

BURSU Connection Manager (BURSUcm) brings your servers, credentials and team into one workspace. SSH, WinRM, RDP, VNC, AppleRD, Telnet, Serial, Web, FTP and SFTP sessions open in tabs, with a full terminal, a side-by-side SFTP panel, split view and remote desktops inside the app. It runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iPhone and iPad.

Remote desktops use built-in engines. BURSUrdp, our own RDP engine, brings H.264 graphics, audio, clipboard, drive and printer redirection and multi-monitor sessions. VNC connects with TLS/VeNCrypt, scaling and view-only mode. AppleRD opens a Mac in a tab, and on Apple silicon with macOS 14+ it uses Apple's High Performance screen sharing (GPU-decoded H.264/HEVC, the Mac's audio, a sharp virtual display), a mode so far only Apple's own Screen Sharing app could use.

WinRM opens PowerShell or cmd.exe on a Windows server in a terminal tab, with streamed output, Ctrl+C, interactive prompts and a pinned server certificate.

For SSH: ProxyJump chains, local, remote and dynamic (SOCKS5) tunnels, keys from the OpenSSH agent or the vault, and one-click tmux sessions, so a dropped link brings you back to the same screen. Lost sessions are detected within seconds and reconnect on their own.

Credentials are encrypted with a portable AES-256-GCM master-password vault (or Windows DPAPI). Nested folders inherit credentials and carry per-folder grants: who can view, edit or reveal passwords. TOTP codes live next to their login.

Storage: a local SQLite file, your own PostgreSQL server, or BURSUcloud, an optional zero-knowledge backend with an isolated database per account where the master password never leaves the device. The app works fully offline; an account is only needed for sync and team sharing.

Optional AI assistant with your own API key (OpenAI, Gemini, Claude, DeepSeek and others) or a local model (Ollama, LM Studio, llama.cpp): it explains output and runs routine commands in SSH and WinRM sessions (and RDP on Windows). Secret Shield redacts secrets before anything is sent, system-changing commands wait for your approval, and one checkbox turns it off.
