Platforms

  • Mac  Open the DMG and drag the app into Applications. macOS will refuse the first launch and say it "could not verify" the app — every Mac, every time, because Apple has not notarized it. Open System Settings › Privacy & Security, scroll to Security and click Open Anyway.
  • Windows  Unzip it, put bubbleTranslate.exe wherever you keep programs and double-click it. Nothing to install. It isn't code-signed, so SmartScreen stops the first launch: More info › Run anyway, once per machine.
  • Linux  Make it executable and run it: chmod +x bubbleTranslate-linux-x86_64 ./bubbleTranslate-linux-x86_64 Reading text off the screen (Ctrl+Shift+E)

What is bubbleTranslate?

No interruption while reading anymore. Stop copy-pasting text into Google Translate. Hold Shift, select text, and read the translation right where you are.

Can't select it? Draw a box around it instead.

A screenshot somebody sent you, a scanned page, a still from a video, a game, a remote desktop — text that is there on the screen but belongs to no text field, so there has never been anything to select. Press ⌘⇧E on a Mac, Ctrl+Shift+E on Windows and Linux, drag a rectangle over it, and the translation appears under the box. Escape cancels.
