What is BackupZit?

BackupZit is self-hosted backup software that you run on your own server. One web console manages agents on Windows and Linux machines and backs up files, whole disks (bare-metal recovery, also onto different hardware), Proxmox VE VMs and containers, VMware ESXi and Hyper-V VMs (agentless, changed blocks only, instant recovery), SQL Server, PostgreSQL and MySQL/MariaDB databases, SMB/NFS NAS shares and Microsoft 365 (Exchange, OneDrive, SharePoint).

Backups are deduplicated, compressed and AES-256 encrypted on SFTP, S3-compatible storage, SMB, Azure Blob, USB or local disks. Ransomware protection comes from immutable backups (S3 Object Lock or a write-once hardened repository), detection of suspicious changes and automatic restore tests. It also has schedules, job chains, backup windows, RPO alerts, PDF reports, email/Slack/Teams notifications, a REST API, LDAP/AD and SSO, and a UI in 14 languages. Free under the AGPLv3, with optional commercial support.
