    The FreeCAD BIM Workbench is increasingly a useful alternative to Autodesk Revit. It includes many similar tools and has good IFC support. So while it is not a drop-in replacement, it is viable for smaller projects. Do some research on their forum and see what you think.

    I don't want to be this negative, but this software is really lacking a lot and yet it is the closest to Bim that we have in open source so far. I feel like this should be a job to blender community since writing a Bim suit alone is colossal work. I could work with the lacking features, but software is really far from intuitive for architects.

    Using this I produce models and drawings faster than any other BIM or CAD software I have used. 2D drawing is a little flawed in comparison to AutoCAD but it's top of the league in everything else.
