What is AtlasOS?
AtlasOS is a 22H2 version of Windows which comes pre-tweaked with optimizations for FPS & latency. Atlas minimizes bloatware out of the box, and you won't have useless apps taking up your CPU power & increasing latency so you can get the edge on your opponents in games!
What are the benefits compared to regular windows?
Private
Atlas removes all types of tracking embedded within Windows 10. Though some features cannot be private, such as:
- Microsoft Store
- Linked Microsoft Account
- Xbox
- Apps and services not deployed by Atlas
- Websites you visit
Secure
Atlas aims to be secure as possible without losing performance by disabling features that can leak information or be exploited. There are exceptions to this such as Spectre and Meltdown. These mitigations are disabled to improve performance. If a security mitigation measure decreases performance, it will be disabled. Below are some features/mitigations that have been changed, if they contain a (P) they are security risks that have been fixed:
- Spectre
- Meltdown
- DMA Remapping
- ATMFD Exploit (P)
- Print Nightmare (P)
Below are features that are removed from Atlas that have possible security issues:
- Remote Desktop
- NetBIOS (Possible Information Retrieval)
Debloated
Atlas is heavily stripped, preinstalled apps and other components are removed. Although this can break some compatibility, it significantly reduces ISO and install size. Functionalities such as Printing, are removed. This modification is focused on pure gaming, but most work and education applications work.
Performant
Atlas is pre-tweaked. We've done almost everything to squeeze out the most performance, minimize latency and input lag. We've done the following to do this:
- Custom Powerplan
- Minimized Services
- Disabled Drivers
- Disabled Devices
- Disabled Power Saving
- Disabled Performance-Hungry Security Mitigations
- Automatically enabled MSI Mode
- Boot Configuration Optimization
- Optimized Process Scheduling
Comments and Reviews
Actively in the process of installing it now on an Am1 Athlon 5350 system so far the install is proceeding easily not too convoluted and am currently 15 minutes into the install. i had a good lol when it tells me its "Reticulating Splines"..
success! after a good hour of it doing its thing its finally done. off the get go the amd hdmi hd audio stopped giving sound after install so uninstalling and reinstalling the amd catalyst fixed that. not having installed another browser prior to this its Deletion of Edge While in the long run a good thing.. uh now i have to port a file manually to install chrome or opera or firefaux or brave ect for once a windows that doesn't have a crap browser to download a better browser.. ... and the home network bits seem to have gone as well.. soo cant just easily drag and drop the browser install over from another system on the network. But Despite those little hitches. it DOES make World of Tanks play a little nicer on this little Athlon 5350. the opening of various programs and games seems faster. the cpu does perform better having the various things disabled. i cannot deny that. over all yeah 4 stars not a Flawless execution but easy enough to work around. and it is what i wanted !

side note when it goes bust and you need to run a windows repair.. well all the crap that atlas removes comes flooding back.. so if you want the bloat back just run a system repair and it'll install all the bloat all over again.. instantly cured by just running the atlas install again.

a few days in to atlasOS usage all good nothing bad to report. one start up blue screen but im pretty sure it was related to intel XMP memory timing thing being enabled .. on an AMD system lol .. disabled and set memory speeds accordingly in the bios and booting and loading proceeded as regular.

This is not an OS, it is a collection of scripts and tools to try and make Windows better.
The team does great work and I love what they are doing, but this isn't an operating system.
