This app has gotten a lot better in the last year or so. When it was first released, it was really not that great at all-- it could only support Gmail accounts, the interface looked like junk, etc. Recently, however, AirMail has entirely replaced Sparrow (which was discontinued last year) as my desktop email client of choice. It's rapidly improving, and I can only expect things to get better from here.
This seems to be the closest thing to a real Sparrow replacement so far (since Google bought & deserted it)—and it's pretty close!
I heard of a few projects starting up to fill the hole left behind after Sparrow, and this is the first I've seen really fill that gap, with a genuine effort at supporting Gmail's idiosyncrasies.
Multiple accounts requires buying a subscription to AirMail Pro which costs $9.99 / year.
"$9.99 yearly which renew every year. [...] New Users can try Airmail without Multi Account, and limited capabilities."

Although Apple Mail does just fine, syncs perfectly between devices, and does have a small ability to adjust the interface, it is frankly boring. Worse, it is difficult to read for someone dealing with vision problems. In my case, I have blurred vision in spots due to a retinal vein occlusion. And due to my age, my doctor sees the beginning of cataracts, which also means that bright whites produce more glaring.
Thus, I search for an email client that allows me to adjust the background, font face and text sizes. Additional features like package tracking, temporary email addresses, send later, email receipts, etc. are just window-dressing when you cannot read the emails.
I have yet to find one. I paid $10 for Airmail on my iMac, and the differences between it and Spark are minor. Airmail lets me choose a personal icon to represent my icloud email. I LOVE that. However, neither Airmail nor Spark allow me to increase the icon or font sizes. FAIL. Bluemail gives a more readable interface, but it also has problems. It occasionally has syncing issues with icloud. You cannot change the font sizes. You cannot swipe to archive. I would LOVE this app if only these features were given.
Kiwi for Gmail only works with my gmail account, and I would love that unified inbox....sigh.
I may have to return to Mail.
Nice and clean email client for macOS and iOS. If you were using Sparrow in the past, Airmail might be what you're looking for.
I really want this app but don't really want to pay £5 for it
Spark and Polymail should definitely also be added to the list of alternatives.
