    AirDrop is described as 'is the simplest way to send files wirelessly to anyone around you. To share a file, simply drag it onto a person’s contact photo. Your Mac verifies that you want to send the file, then sends a request to the recipient' and is an app in the file sharing category. There are more than 50 alternatives to AirDrop for a variety of platforms, including Linux, Windows, Android, Mac and Online / Web-based. The best alternative is Syncthing, which is both free and Open Source. Other great apps like AirDrop are RetroShare, Onionshare, ShareDrop and Snapdrop.
