Fooyin 0.13 launches with CD playback/ripping, global keyboard shortcuts, and a new logo

In what developers are calling their “biggest release by far”, music player Fooyin has launched version 0.13, introducing a comprehensive suite of new features that significantly expands the audio software's capabilities. Headlined by Linux-exclusive audio CD playback and ripping functionality, the update brings file integrity checks with AccurateRip verification and MusicBrainz-based metadata lookup to help users maintain accurate library information. Additional features include global keyboard shortcuts, “Run Services” integration, and flexible playback modes allowing users to choose between playlist-led or queue-led operation. The loved status feature now spans the entire player interface, with optional synchronization to Last.fm for tracking listening statistics.

Beyond headline additions, v0.13 delivers substantial refinements across the application. Playlist presets gained support for custom grouping scripts, while the lyrics' widget can now function as a standalone window, a welcome option for dedicated lyric displays. Discord Rich Presence has been enhanced to show both local and MusicBrainz artwork, keeping friends updated with more detailed album art. The command-line interface received expanded playback controls for power users, alongside broader improvements to metadata handling, scripting capabilities, visualizations, and various interface components. Notably, JavaScript Panels, originally planned for this release, will arrive separately through a dedicated plugin in the coming weeks.

This release marks a significant milestone for the open-source player: Fooyin's original development roadmap, drafted during the project's early stages, is now officially complete. The team has promised to share details about future development directions soon. While some features like JavaScript integration were deferred to a later timeline, the core vision appears realized with this substantial update that balances advanced audiophile features with everyday usability improvements, plus a brand-new logo!
