Firefox 154 adds AI web search, official GeForce NOW support, and Startpage in Europe
Firefox 154 has been officially released, and with it Mozilla is rolling out the latest version of Smart Window, its AI-powered browsing experience that can use selected open tabs and browsing history to answer questions, organize related tabs, find previously visited pages, and help users resume unfinished browsing tasks, or other multi-step searches. The latest update adds AI-assisted tab grouping, duplicate tab detection, visual previews in browsing history, and AI web-search retrieval through a new Mozilla partnership with Exa, an AI-focused search and information retrieval company. Exa now powers Smart Window’s AI web search, allowing it to find up-to-date information and provide source-backed answers with visible citations directly in the browser.
Some may not recognize the "Smart Window" name, since Mozilla originally introduced it as AI Window back in November. During beta testing, it has evolved from a simple AI assistant into a broader browsing workspace for searching, organizing research, and picking up unfinished tasks. It’s also worth mentioning that Smart Window is optional, with users able to control what browsing context it can access and which AI model it uses through Firefox’s AI Controls. The beta is currently available in English in the US and Canada.
Beyond the Smart Window updates, Firefox 154 finally adds official NVIDIA GeForce NOW support on Windows, allowing users to stream more than 2,000 PC games directly in Firefox, with up to 1440p and 120 FPS for Ultimate subscribers. The release also makes privacy-focused search engine Startpage a built-in desktop option in Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, with Android and iOS support planned later.
