Apple temporarily removes Telegram from the App Store over child sexual abuse material
Apple briefly removed the Telegram app from the Apple App Store worldwide on Monday night after finding child sexual abuse material shared by one single user. Telegram removed the content and permanently banned the account, and the app was restored to the store later the same day.
Telegram criticized the suspension as disproportionate, arguing that one user’s actions disrupted access for more than one billion people. The company also questioned whether Apple would apply the same standard to other messaging platforms, including iMessage: "I'm sure this stance will be applied equally to all other apps in the store, in the future right? @Apple"
Telegram says it has a zero tolerance policy for child sexual abuse material and has removed more than 337,900 related groups and channels in 2026. The incident follows a similar App Store suspension in 2018, after which Telegram strengthened its content moderation safeguards.

What a silly and brainless thing to do...but that's Apple for ya. I can proudly say that I've never purchased or owned an Apple product or service in my entire life and never plan on it changing that.
If they removed Telegram for such a silly thing, did they also remove Roblox, Facebook, Bluesky, Instagram, Discord, Venice AI and all the countless other apps that are created to deliberately circulate such things...or have become hijacked by the types of people that do? They would remove internet access completely if they actually cared about children being abused. They would stop using children as slave labor to create their products and/or mine their raw resources too. It's all performative.

Aside from the seriousness of protecting our children, what makes me chuckle is that Apple fought hard against EU's designation for them as a gatekeeper (re Digital Market Act), and this is another example showing that they are.

If you have business in some country, you should obey that country's laws regardless of how you feel about them. Google and Apple regularly removed certain privacy and opposition apps in Russia until they stopped providing services there alltogether. You can be brave in the US or EU with free speech demands and lawsuits. In countries like Russia, if you do not follow orders, all your local stuff will be arrested or worse.

How many similar cases has happened on Facebook or X? Or other AMERICAN social media platforms? This is about "who is this", not "what pictures was this about."
How does a one-day suspension from the App Store disrupt everybody? People could still use the app. They just could not update it for a few hours. Overreacting on both sides.

Honestly this is not good specially for kids who also use the app. Facebook should take action and make the platform more safe, otherwise parents will not feel comfortable letting children use it. Hope they fix this soon.
ss ssssaaaa ★ Sep 4, 2025 0 I quit facebook cause they have repeatedly broken EU privacy laws and are still (after several lawsuits and fines) extracting european users data to the US, where they can do with it as they please (compared to GDPR). They are using their apps to surveil and gather information to know who is connected to who, also people outside of facebook, and they're willing to openly give other companies access to this data like we saw with Cambridge Analytica. They use dark design patterns to make people use more time on their platforms, wasting peoples time with »useful« notifications for every interaction on the site, no matter how un-important it is. I would like platforms like facebook to have respect for their users privacy and time and because of this I can't recommend facebook or Metas platforms to anyone.
There is 60 comments about Facebook, from I can see 3/4 negative, similar to these.. "alot of adult type content showing up on Facebook." does NOT set Apple "shame system" active. Different system for different companies AND land of origin...
