Spotify is getting an AI chatbot to answer questions about songs, podcasts, and audiobooks
Spotify is rolling out new AI conversational controls to eligible premium users, bringing the option to speak or type queries directly into the app. This feature is accessible across the home and now playing views on mobile devices. Users can start conversations to pick songs, revisit listening history, learn more about their favorite tracks, and explore podcasts and audiobooks, all without switching apps.
Building on these enhancements, users can request music in more personalized ways, such as asking Spotify to play unfamiliar artists or tailoring playback with instructions to queue certain songs or focus on recent releases. The now playing view further allows users to ask about songs, albums, artists, or genres, providing detailed context and linking to related artists or stories. While listening to podcasts or audiobooks, users can request information about authors, guests, or narrative backgrounds, letting Spotify supply related recommendations and background details.
Spotify makes use of users’ listening histories, playlists, and liked tracks to answer questions like when a song was first played or what genres have been popular recently. Users can interact using the mic button or by typing queries. These features are being introduced in beta to premium members aged 18 and over in the United States, Ireland, and Sweden, in English, on both iOS and Android devices.
