OpenProject 17.6 brings XWiki integration and new agile planning features for backlogs

OpenProject 17.6 is now available as the latest release of this open source project management platform. This update delivers a first milestone integration with XWiki, allowing users to link and reference work packages directly on XWiki pages, create and link wiki pages from within OpenProject, and track cross-platform references. Developed with input from the XWiki team, the integration brings project management and enterprise knowledge management closer together within a single ecosystem.

Further enhancing agile workflows, teams using the Backlogs module gain new support for sprint goals to clarify the purpose of each sprint. A new all-sprints overview offers greater visibility across ongoing and completed iterations, while backlog buckets can now be managed directly from both work packages and work package tables for streamlined organization.

Following these updates, OpenProject continues to expand its Meetings module to support the full meeting cycle. Teams can convert discussions or individual agenda items into actionable work packages, with traceable links maintained between agenda points and related tasks.

The release also introduces a new Wikis tab for linking internal wikis, improved handling for project-based semantic identifiers, and expanded options to configure cost types at the project level.
