OBS Studio 32.2 brings easier source addition, new filter to compose SDR into HDR and more

OBS Studio 32.2 is now available as the latest release for those who rely on this open source, cross-platform screencasting and live-streaming software. This update introduces a redesigned workflow by replacing the dropdown to add a new source with a new dialog, aimed at improving source selection. Developers can now utilize newly added copy and paste functions in the frontend API, expanding integration possibilities.

Building on these functional updates, users can access a filter to compose Standard Dynamic Range (SDR) into High Dynamic Range (HDR) output, enhancing creative workflows. On macOS, the delete key is now usable as a hotkey for removing sources, and Intel-based installations running on Apple Silicon hardware are now forced to update to the native Apple Silicon version for improved compatibility and performance. In addition, support for dynamic bitrate in multitrack video allows more flexibility when working with complex video streams.

Following these enhancements, filters receive missing file support, helping users manage absent assets effectively. Plugins can set custom icons for new source types, while user experience improvements affect the frames-per-second selector and add .webp file support for image slide shows. Other technical improvements cover OpenGL performance on low-end machines, more reliable DLL loading on Windows, and new capture devices that default to a fallback frame rate, among other enhancements and bug fixes.
