COSMIC Epoch 1.5 improves display scaling, panel performance, and touch support
System76 has released COSMIC Epoch 1.5.0 with fixes for display scaling, stability, panel performance, and multi monitor support. The compositor now includes a workaround for rendering issues affecting Chromium and Electron apps when scaling is set below 100%. It also fixes a D-Bus deadlock in the accessibility keyboard monitor, restores proper X11 window focus after windows are unmapped and remapped, and prevents crashes when renderer creation fails following a GPU reset.
COSMIC Panel now uses less CPU while the screen is locked and includes fixes for touch input on touchscreen devices. Frosted glass effects now render correctly on recently connected external displays, while panel flickering and a rounding issue that could leave a one pixel gap between adjacent screens have been resolved. Panel popups also close before a new monitor is connected, preventing inconsistent interface states.
Other changes include support for selecting multiple wallpapers at once, an increased wallpaper limit from 100 to 500, and improved VPN credential handling that no longer stores usernames as secrets. COSMIC Terminal adds configurable borders between panes, while the desktop portal now supports metadata based cursor capture during screen casting.
